Dear Virginia Board Of Dentistry:
It is inconceivable that you would consider allowing dental assistants to take over theraputic scaling.
More recent health care studies have revealed the fact of the vital relationship between optimum health and good oral health. It is a fact that in the best dental offices the dentist defers to the skilled hygienist to ascertain appropriate modalities for treatment of gum disease. It is in the public's best interest that such care be left in the hands of highly trained and skilled registered dental hygienists.
The only reason that this treatment would be left in the hands of a dental assistant is to cut costs ....to the detriment of patients. Please uphold the best of regulations vital to the health of the people of the State of Virginia.
Thank you
