Parks and public forests are known to attract criminal elements- pedophiles, thieves, muggers, etc.  I should be allowed to take appropriate precautions to defend myself and my family, particularly when police are unlikely to be able to respond in a timely fashion.  If I can carry in a shopping mall, what is the issue with carrying in a remote forest?
