I strongly oppose this petition. Though there may be in fact a severe shortage of LVTs to go around, reducing the standards that we hold ourselves to is not the correct choice to make. If this petition passes, what is the next task that will come up for petition; intubation and monitoring? Then at that point what would a practice even need to have an LVT for when they can source tasks to an unlicensed assistant. This is already a major problem in many clinics in VA, and this petition would just provide a legal wedge to allow those practices to continue.
