Support Catheter placement by properly trained non licensed assistants

In recent years, I have been fortunate enough to work with some great licensed technicians but I know first hand the need for many practices to have the flexibility to have properly trained staff to assist in patient care. Therefore I support the placement of IV catheter by properly trained LVT or assistant under veterinary supervision.  Many practices that have hired LVT  are still faced with shifts where there are no LVT on duty.  LVT students are learning the how to place catheters in a clinical setting with doctor or LVT supervision/instruction.  If these clinic doctors/ licensed LVT are qualified to train the students to do this procedure properly, why can they not teach a capable individual the same skill set?  Many other states allow placement of IV catheter by non licensed individuals.

Respectfully submitted
