This petition was started for the sole reason that there are not enough LVT is available to allow hospitals to serve their patients and be in compliance with the rules. This should not devolve into a power struggle over who gets to do what. When there are not enough LVTs, veterinarians must place catheters which does not work well for patient care. Veterinarians should be doing what THEY were trained to do, things that NOONE else in the hospital can do. Let's agree on a training checklist through which experienced, specially selected assistants can be trained to safely place peripheral intravenous catheters. If and when there are enough LVTs, and if this is still an issue, it can be revisited. The role of the technician is so important, and they do so much, letting go of this one task, in the hospitals where there are not enough LVTs should not be viewed as threat
