In human medicine, not a single person is allowed to stick a needle in your arm (legally) unless they are credentialed and I believe it devalues our patients and our profession to suggest it's OK to set a lower standard of care for our veterinary patients.
I would suggest hiring LVTs on at full (and fair/reasonable/rewarding) salaries with benefits would solve the shortage problem; while taking away the LVTs duties and giving them to those without any proper, standardized, regulated training, and credentials drives down the LVT pool by making the credentials seem less of an achievement (and less desirable) as VAs are being handed their responsibilities.
Even Nursing Assistants, in human medicine, are credentialed.
Just a thought....
