Vehemently disagree!

I vehemently disagree with this proposal! No unlicensed person should ever be allowed to insert anything into the vein of a patient, including an IV catheter. This idea would never even be suggested in human medicine. Veterinary medicine is not where it stood in the 1950s. Most people today view their pets as family members and as such, expect their pets will receive a comparable level of care afforded to their human family members. This change would only serve to legitimize those veterinary practices that are already breaking the law by allowing unlicensed staff to place IV catheters, setting a very bad precedent that could further erode the quality of veterinary medicine in Virginia.
