In order to place an IVC I had to be trained by the doctors and technicians in order for my school to sign off that I had completed that skill satisfactorily. Aseptic technique had to be learned. Also a firm grasp of anatomy is needed. Just as we assign certain skills in human medicine we should also hold that standard in animal medicine. Not that a non-licensed person could not learn these same skills, it is more of where we draw the line with what an individual can legally do with or without a license. If we allow this law to change then what is next? Can I as an LVT start doing surgery without the proper credentials? Will anyone at all be allowed to provide medical care for our companions? Let's start here with a high standard of care for our pets.
