There are too many employees in the field, that have been properly trained to complete tasks such as IV catheter placement and venipuncture. A lot of these employees have been in the field for many years, pride their skills, and cannot afford to go through school to obtain a license. I personally, have had the pleasure of meeting many assistants, that I feel are more confident and efficient than many licensed technicians. I understand the reasoning behind wanting to require a license for such tasks, but at the same time this will be detrimental for many clinics that have few LVT's (if any), as many clinics simply cannot afford to have an LVT on staff at all times. If for any reason, the board decides to proceed with this change in requirements, they should allow currently trained assistants (with the proper amount of experience) to either be grandfathered in somehow or even be given the opportunity to take the VTNE without degree. I'm sure that would seem unfair in some ways to a lot of people, but would be the best way to transition without the clinics and doctors having to suffer.
