Absolutely not in support of unlicensed person to place IV catheters.

LVT's are not being valued or respected for our skills and education. We spend years and a lot of money on our degrees and in return we struggle to support ourselves in a profession we love, thus being a shortage of LVT's. We have the same degrees as a human nurse, but you do not see a CNA being trained to do the task only an RN can do. Our profession has been struggling for recognition, respect, and licenseing standards across the board, and now they want to train and pay an assistant to do tasks that have, until now, legally should only be done by a licensed person. And yes, there are a lot of practices allowing assistants to do what only an LVT should be doing, but that is why we as LVT's are fighting for licensing standards for all states. What next? Would you want someone with no formal education or degree to be responsible for your animals care? The public takes their animals to a veterinary clinic because there are licensed people to take care of their animals.  No different then the public going to a human Doctor, do you think they would go to their doctor if they did not have the education and license? Would you consider training someone with no formal education to place an IV catheter in your arm? I bet not. Then why would this subject even be brought up for discussion. So, no I DO NOT SUPPORT THIS, AT ALL. Please give us the value and respect we deserve as Licensed Veterinary Technicians.
