LVT Votes NO!

Placing IV catheters is an important job. It needs to be done correctly. There can be infection if placed incorrectly and not cleaned first. With jugular catheters, they have to put in a certain direction, the needle needs to be pointing toward the heart so the medications will go in the correct direction. If IV Jugular catheters are not put in the correct direction drugs will go straight to the brain. That's a problem. People who have gone to school to be a trained as licensed veterinary technician know these important things. As licensed Veterinary technicians we are trained to be the voice of our patient. We are there to make sure that our patient gets the best care they possibly can. That's why unlicensed individuals should not be placing IV catheters. Too much can go wrong, it's not worth harming a patient and destroying a family's life by harming their animal if something goes wrong placing that catheter by an unlicensed individual. So this LVT votes NO! Thank you.
