I cannot carry a large rifle on a hike, it is too big and heavy.  While I do not hunt, I do like to have a small gun that I can comfortably carry, usually loaded with snake shot to deter unwelcome animals.  Although protection from 2 legged bandits is not my primary concern, I have met my share in State and National forests.  I support the petition to legally allow handguns in state wilderness areas.
