As a water related conservation group concerned with the restoration and protection of water quality and quantity in the North Fork Shenandoah River as well as all Virginia waterways, we are heartened by and fully support the designation of portions of the Hazel River as a Tier II Exceptional State Waters by amending the state’s Antidegradation Policy (9 VAC 5-260-30).
The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality has evaluated specified portions of the Hazel and found that they meet the eligibility criteria require of Tier II waterbodies. There is local support from the communities and local governments to move forward with Tier III designation, as well. Friend of the North Fork would like to support the continuation of the designation process and encourage the Stat Water Control Board to award final Tier II approval for he aforementioned portion of the
