I would appreciate consideration of the following comments pertaining to my oppositions on this petition for rulemaking.  It is my opinion the board should deny this petition for rulemaking because it takes away its own authority. The ADA’s clinical and educational guidelines are very useful, but on topics such as ethics, Virginia’s dental community should work together on standards if it is proven that such a code is needed. The person asking the board to adopt the ADA Code doesn’t give any reason why the board should do it other than he thinks it is a good idea. The requester identifies no situation that this request is intended to address. Setting this type of precendent undermines our current code and is counter to the self regulation that defines a profession.
