We would strongly encourage the discontinuance of shackling pregnant prisoner. We understand that a variety of doctors and professional groups like the AMA oppose the practice as an unnecessary threat to the life of the baby. We also understand that in states that bar the practice there have been no instances of harm or injury to prisoner, baby, guards, or prison staff.
We ask you will to discontinue the practice promptly. Thank you for your consideration.
