Purpose of the meeting
PURPOSE OF NOTICE: To announce an informational public meeting regarding an application to reissue a permit that authorizes the land application of biosolids and water treatment plant residuals in Albemarle County. PUBLIC MEETING: Monday, June 1, 2026 at 6:00 pm at Piedmont Virginia Community College – The Bolick Center Event Space B – located at 501 College Drive, Charlottesville, VA 22902. PURPOSE OF PUBLIC MEETING: For the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) to exchange information with the interested public on technical issues related to the proposed permit reissuance such as: site-specific information that DEQ may consider when drafting the permit; the standard content of permits; and how the public can provide comments on the draft permits. PERMIT NUMBER AND NAME: VPA01587 – Synagro Central LLC - Albemarle County issued by the DEQ pursuant to applicable water laws and regulations NAME AND ADDRESS OF APPLICANT: Synagro Central, LLC., 1681 Tappahannock Blvd, Tappahannock, VA 22560 PROJECT DESCRIPTION AND LOCATION: Synagro Central, LLC. has submitted an application for the reissuance of a permit to include 5,782.6 acres of agricultural and silvicultural land at 8 sites in Albemarle County, of which 1,702.5 acres is new land application area. The permit authorizes the land application of biosolids and water treatment plant residuals as fertilizer to specific sites in Albemarle County and limits the application of nutrients, metals, and pathogens contained in these materials to amounts that protect water quality and human health. That notice will include instructions on how to comment and/or request a public hearing on the draft permit. Based on comments received on the draft permit, DEQ may make a final decision on the permit, or hold a public hearing on the draft permit. The public may review the permit application at the website named above, at the public meeting, by appointment at the DEQ office named below, or may request copies of the documents from the contact person listed below.
