| Purpose of the meeting The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) announces a Technical Advisory Committee Meeting to present the draft bacteria Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) report for the Mattaponi River project area. MEETING DESCRIPTION: This is a final Technical Advisory Committee meeting for the bacteria TMDL for the Mattaponi River project area in Orange, Spotsylvania, Caroline, King and Queen, and King William Counties. The purpose of the meeting will be to present the draft TMDLs for 14 impaired river segments. DESCRIPTION OF AREA COVERED BY THE PLAN: The Mattaponi River and its tributaries have been identified as impaired and are on the Clean Water Act draft 2014 §303(d) list for not supporting Virginia’s water quality recreation use standard due to the presence of fecal bacteria. The goal of the Clean Water Act is that all streams should be suitable for recreational uses, including swimming and fishing. The impaired segments included in the project area include: 2.56 miles of Brock Run, from Aunt Sarah Spring Creek to Ni River; 4.44 miles of Chapel Creek, from Beaver Branch to Mattaponi River; 2.32 miles of Doctors Creek, from Tanyard Swamp to Maracossic Creek; 9.30 miles of Glady Run, from its headwaters to Po River; 4.21 miles of Maracossic Creek, from Beverly Run to Mattaponi River; 2.30 miles of Mat River, from about 0.3 miles upstream from Route 647 to Ta River; 11.89 miles of Matta River, from about 0.5 miles upstream from Route 646 to Poni River; 3.20 miles of Mattaponi River, from an unnamed tributary draining from Goose Pond to Polecat Creek; 1.80 miles of Motto River, from about 0.4 miles upstream from Route 1 to about 0.2 miles downstream from I-95; 7.21 miles of Po River, from about 2.7 miles upstream from Route 1 to Ni River; 5.31 miles of Polecat Creek, from its headwaters to Stevens Mill Run; 3.21 miles of Poni river, from about 0.7 miles upstream from Route 606 to Matta River; 12.69 miles of Reedy Creek, from its headwaters to Reedy Millpond; and 7.83 miles of Root Swamp, from its headwaters to Beverly Run.
