Purpose of the meeting
The first public meetings on a TMDL study to restore water quality for shellfish growing areas along Cod, Presley, Hull, Rogers, and Bridgeman Creeks, Fountain Cove, Cubitt, and Hack Creeks which are impaired due to bacterial violations. The study will report the current status of the Creeks via sampling performed by the Virginia Department of Health; Division of Shellfish Sanitiation, shellfish area condemnations and the possible sources of bacterial contamination. The study will recommend total maximum daily loads, or TMDLs, for the impaired waters and in order to restore water quality, reductions in bacterial levels to the TMDL amount. The public notice appears in the Virginia Register of Regulations on June 8, 2009. The public comment period begins on June 24, 2009 and ends on July 23, 2009.
