Purpose of the meeting
This town hall style meeting is being held in response to citizen questions and concerns regarding natural gas development and surface owner rights in Virginia. The meeting will feature two presentations by the Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy (DMME) and the Virginia Oil and Gas Association. Topics will range from the history of state rules and regulations governing natural gas extraction, how wells are located and drilled to options for participating in a lease agreement, among others. Following the presentations a question and answer session will be held, and state and industry representatives will be present at tables in an adjacent area to assist citizens who may have questions about specific wells, leasing issues, Virginia Gas and Oil Board activities or other related matter.
