Purpose of the meeting
The Board of Game and Inland Fisheries intends to meet and will consider for final adoption amendments to regulations governing hunting, trapping, and game wildlife that were proposed on February 27, 2009. The proposed regulation amendments were published in the Virginia Register of Regulations, posted on the internet at www.dgif.virginia.gov, and summaries were advertised in newspapers. A public comment period on the proposed regulation amendments opened March 11, 2009 and closed on May 11, 2009. At the June 2, 2009 meeting, the Board will solicit comments from the public, at which time any interested citizen present shall be heard; the Board will receive staff’s recommendations regarding final adoption of amendments; and the Board will determine whether the amendments proposed on February 27, 2009 will be adopted as final regulations. The Board reserves the right to adopt final amendments that may be more liberal than, or more stringent than, the regulations currently in effect or the regulation amendments proposed at the February 27, 2009 meeting, as necessary for the proper management of wildlife resources in Virginia. The Board is exempted from the Administrative Process Act (§ 2.2 – 4002 of the Code of Virginia) in promulgating wildlife management regulations, including the length of seasons, bag limits, and methods of take on the wildlife resources within the Commonwealth of Virginia and publishes all proposed and final regulations as required by § 2.2 – 4031. The Board will also receive public comments on non-agenda items; will elect the Board Officers for Chairman and Vice-Chairman for 2009-2010; will receive Committee reports from Finance, Audit and Compliance, Education, Planning and Outreach, and Wildlife and Boat, including a presentation for approval of the Department’s FY 2010 Operating and Capital Budget; will approve the draft minutes of the April 7, 2009 Board Meeting; may discuss general and administrative issues; and may hold a closed session at some time during the meeting.
