| Purpose of the meeting The purpose of this meeting is to provide information about a water quality study to develop a Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) for a PCB in fish tissue impairment in the Roanoke (Staunton) River Watershed and discuss the study with community members. DEQ is working to identify sources of PCBs in fish tissue in an 84 mile segment of the Staunton River. The impaired stream segment is located in Campbell, Charlotte, Pittsylvania and Halifax Counties. During the study, DEQ will develop a total maximum daily load, or a TMDL, for the impaired stream segment. A TMDL is the total amount of a pollutant a water body can receive and still meet water quality standards. To restore water quality, pollutant levels have to be reduced to the TMDL allocated amount. The public notice appears in the Virginia Register on July 21, 2008. The public comment period begins on July 29, 2008 and ends on August 29, 2008. | |
