Title Guidelines and Standards of Learning for Family Life Education

Summary The Family Life Education Board of Education Guidelines and Standards of Learning for Virginia Public Schools include the requirements of 2017 House Bill 2257 which provides that any high school family life education curriculum offered by a local school may incorporate age-appropriate elements of effective and evidence based program on the law and meaning of consent for sexual activity. The 2017 revisions also include requirements in 2017 Senate Bill 1475 which requires family life education guidelines, curricula, and instruction to include the value of family relationships and specifies that age-appropriate sexual violence prevention evidence-based programs incorporated into high school Family Life Education curriculum may include instruction that increases student awareness of the fact that consent is required before sexual activity.
