I feel that those who have proven their ability to properly handle firearms should be permitted to carry . I was a law enforcement officer for many years. Believe me when I say that the authorities ( police, sheriff, rangers) are only good for your protection after the fact. Be it in your home , in public or in the forest taking a hike with your family, they are not going to be able to help you if confronted by those with criminal intent. It is a person right to be able to protect themselves from harm. Granted 99% of those trekking in the woods are average Joe citizens  like yourself, but JOE Creep lurks there also, and if he comes after you in the woods with nobody around, there will be nobody the to hear your cries for help.
