Remember Virginia Tech

Time seems to have a way of making one (or better said, most everyone) forget the carnage that is possible when a person or persons makes a conscious decision to do harm to others. Whether it be at Virginia Tech, Luby's cafeteria, in Byrd Park in Richmond or in a State or National forest, we all are at risk when we do not have the means to protect ourselves and others from those who would do us harm. If one person had been armed, either qualified student or faculty member, who could have confronted Cho on that deadly day in April at Virginia Tech, many lives could have been saved. To advertise that a college campus or State Forest is a "Gun Free Zone" is tantamount to telling an assailant "The lawful persons occupying this area are unarmed and incapable of stopping you from killing them. Wreak havoc as you see fit....no one can or will stop you". I strongly support the petition to allow the possession of, open carry and/or concealed carry (by CHP holders) on the State owned properties in question. The life that one of these law abiding citizens saves may not only be his/hers, it may very well be yours. Criminals have no regard for the written rule of law. They will have guns regardless of what is done at the State Capital. It is the law abiding citizen who respects the rule of law and in so doing often time puts himself and his loved ones at risk because he has been denied the right to protect himself simply because of his location, in this case a Virginia State Forest.
