I do not support the idea of only LVT's and Drs having the responsibility to place Iv catheters. I have worked with many unlicensed technicians over the years who have more knowledge and experience then some LVTs do. Taking that away from unlicensed technicians, I believe, would hurt the practices and patient care in the long run. It would require more responsibility on the Drs in practices that don't have LVTs, and would take that away from techs who have been practicing and have many years of experience. Drs without LVTs would have to be pulled away from cases to place an IV catheter or they would be forced to hire LVTs. Practically, not all areas of the states have tech schools and it is harder to find someone who is licensed. In the end, i dont think it would be practical.
