IVC should be placed by licensed technicians

I have worked as a veterinary assistant for almost 4 years. I have worked in Virginia (where you're required to be licensed to place an ivc) and in Michigan (no license required). I truly believe licensed technicians or doctors should be the ones to place a catheter. They have had the proper training and have the knowledge to do so successfully. Placing an IVC is a skill that can be difficult to learn even with all of the proper training. Allowing non-licensed staff to place catheters could not only be dangerous, but it also takes away from the difference of an LVT and an assistant. In human medicine, certification or licensing is required to place a catheter. There is no reason why vet med should be any different.
