It is time for this to be done.  It is clearly the desire of the majority of citizens and there is no reason to prohibit any type of legal carry.  Criminals are going to be armed regardless as noted in the media regularly.  The law-abiding citizen has the right to be able to defend himself and those he feels depend on him.  Please do the right thing, finally.
