Laws preventing  legal carry of fire arms anywhere, including national forests, only keep law abiding citizens from being able to defend themselves and does nothing to prevent criminals from carrying.  If anything, it's an invitation for criminals to rob, rape, or kill innocent victims knowing law abiding citizens would be unarmed and cannot defend themselves.
