: Allowing the Lawful Carry of Handguns on State Forests

I recommend approval of this petition.  A citizen lawfully carrying a firearm on State Forest lands will probably never need to use it.  But being prepared isn't limited to Boy Scouts; a visitor to a state forest may be accosted by a mugger or potential rapist.

Hungry wild animals have been known to attack people.  And running from an animal is futile.

In populated areas, phoning the police or sheriff's department might work -- a law enforcement officer may be able to respond promptly.  But in a forest -- how far away is official help?  And how does the endangered citizen report his location?  Not by using street signs or house numbers.

The prudent visitor to a state forest must see to his own protection.  If legally armed, he can do so.

Additionally, a citizen with a concealed handgun permit has completed a weapons safety course and has had his background scrutinized by law enforcement agencies.

Approval of this petition will enhance the personal safety of visitors to state forests.  I encourage you to approve it.
