I fully support the regulation to implement SMA newborn screening in Virginia.  Advancement is being made every day toward the treatment and cure of this horrific disease.  The strength and tenacity of those effected by SMA and their families has moved mankind forward in the ability to survive, cope, and rise above SMA and its effects.  To not test infants is to not only steal precious time from that small percentage of the next generation who will test positive, but also diminish the efforts of so many who are fighting day after day to beat this disease. Time and knowledge are two things we can never have enough of, this screening will provide both to all of us.
