Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

This bill will save lives!

As a public school high school coach for over 15 years of both girls and boys sports, I fully support this bill. My heart breaks when I read a lot of the other comments and all the ignorance that surrounds this issue.  Students need love and support, especially those who feel different, and are looked at as different by society. I feel any argument against this bill would be an argument copied and pasted from arguments against allowing African American's to be treated as equal, to allow white students and black students to date and eventually marry, to allow students who are homosexual to god-forbid use the bathroom with other students.  For a student to come out as transgender, is more difficult and braver than anything these negative commenters have ever done in their life.  They aren't risking all the horrible things they will be subjected to by these negative commenters so they can go into a different bathroom.  They are risking it all because they have to be true to themselves.  Please support our students, all of our students! Be on the right side of history.
