I support the policies outlined in the proposal. It is imperative that Virginia's public schools be clear and unwavering in their promise to protect LGBTQ+ students. We must advocate for trans and non-binary students not only as a safety and equity issue, but because children will be looking at the example we set. We must do right by all of them. By not being explicit in our promise to protect students, by allowing our educators to be bullied and swayed by narrow-minded parents and public servants, we will only perpetuate discrimination and violence, and fail all students as a result.
