Support--Trans Students Have a Right to feel Safe in School
I am currently earning my teaching license while working as a practicum teacher in a Richmond high school. I have met a number of students that identify as trans, non-binary, or gender questioning. These kids deserve to feel safe and comfortable while in school. If a student feels unsafe or unseen in the classroom, he/she/they have little hope of succeeding academically--a fact supported by many of the educational theorists I've studied in my licensure program. This policy would ensure that our trans students have the chance to excel without the threat of harassment or violence.
