All students, not just LGBTQ students, should be afforded the same rights. This proposal loosely states that, but ultimately provides more protection/coverage for a trans student. That is not ok. You are providing protections for a tiny little population of students. Favoritism will prevail if this policy is approved as is currently written. Below are a few areas where I see fault and request that the policy be reviewed. 

Three ways that this policy needs to be reworked:

1. Parent/guardian MUST be told when their student decides to identify as something other than what their DNA has determined that they are. Keeping this from them must not an option. 

2. Children must use the bathroom that is determined by their DNA. If they are uncomfortable doing that, then they can have an option of using a private bathroom that has a single toilet and sink. *I realize that some schools, specifically elementary schools, don't offer this option. Districts need to figure that out. 

3. Students must NOT be allowed to use a staff office for privacy while changing. If a trans student is allowed to use a staff office to change clothes for PE class because they are uncomfortable around other students, then ANY student should be allowed to do the same. There are hetero students who are uncomfortable changing in front of others, but never has there been a proposal which would allow them an secondary option. Also, if you allow a student to enter a staff office for this purpose you are opening up a HUGE liability for that staff member.
