Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

Commenter: VERY Concerned TEACHER!

The title is completely misleading! If you ONLY read the TITLE, do NOT support this!

The title is completely misleading, "Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia's Public Schools." Who wouldn't want that? ...***However,*** what the 26 page document would ACTUALLY establish is a totalitarianism environment where teachers and administrators become the ultimate judge and jury between a parent and a child.

How can this even remotely be considered legal, much less constitutional?

There are Guardian Ad Litems for a reason.

There are courts for a reason.

There are schools for a reason.

Each of these three entities have definitive, and DIFFERENT roles in society.

Teachers and Administrators have ENOUGH on our plates, crammed into only a few hours.

I am there to TEACH, not PREACH. I am not there as a police officer or a judge. The topic of transgender rights is not a problem to be solved in SCHOOL. If special situations arise, there are guardian ad litems, and courts for those specific situations.

Do NOT MAKE OUR JOB MORE DIFFICULT! We are there to pack in knowledge, NOT to be judge and jury in a family situation.
