Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

Commenter: Informed Mother/ Self Thinker/ advocate for all children

Opposition is not bigotry... those who think so have not read the entire policy.

What about the rights of sexually abused children that now have opposite gender in the restroom and locker room. LAWSUITS!!!!!

VA public education will end up having to let go of employees and teachers when the attendance significantly drops, if this passes as currently written.

I think most people agree Transgenders need  to be treated equally in terms of bullying and harassement... I think most are fine with their choice of clothing (as long as it follows current school rules)- the main issues are the restrooms and locker rooms and TOTALLY UNDERSTANDABLE that parents would not want their children EXPOSED to body parts of opposite gender and vice versa! How could ANY PARENT with any ethics support this?

AND how can any parent support the school system not notifying them about their own child. This is a dangerous path... what else will they keep from parents in the future.

VDOE needs to rethink and go to the table and update this policy to remove much of the current policy- develop uni-sex restrooms and locker rooms, if you feel that is necessary.

VDOE job is to support EDUCATION - not be a part of BIG GOVERNMENT!
