Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

I STRONGLY OPPOSE

I strongly oppose!! The schools job is to educate children on facts. If schools educated our children on every feeling we’ve ever had then you would run a circus instead. Feelings of being a different gender, an animal, or anything else is strictly that- feelings. The dangers of putting a male into the girls locker room based on feelings will open up a whole new set of problems including rape, sexual abuse, among many more. Males will “feel” like a female to get into the locker room and do harm. It would be insanity for schools to be inviting this type of misconduct. Where is the protection for the girls who don’t want to take their clothes off on front of a biological male? If schools are caving to feelings now then I support a separate neutral changing area for those children who’s “feelings” do not match their body. This is the only way to keep EVERYONE safe. Also, schools should NEVER replace a parents role. It’s is absurd that children would be allowed to do anything outside of their parents wishes and then keep that from the parents. Every statement I’ve ever signed from the schools state “we (parents/teachers) are a team and we work together”. Doesn’t that seem like a better idea? I strongly oppose the upcoming rules on transgenders based strictly on feelings. Insane.
