Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

Strongly Opposed - Be Fair to Everyone

Why would anyone think it important, or even necessary, to allow boys to use the girls bathroom just to acknowledge how they identify? Would it hurt their feelings if they used the boys room? These kids should be taught to respect the feelings of other people, too. How sad for them that they are being indulged, coddled, and led to believe that they are entitled to special attention and treatment. Talk about abuse! Wouldn't the logical solution be to simply designate a bathroom for transgenders (or build another one)? A girls bathroom would respect girls who identify as girls, a boys bathroom would respect boys who identify as boys, and a transgender bathroom would respect those who identify however they want to be identified. Do what is FAIR for everyone. To do otherwise would be showing partiality to some and failing to acknowledge those who see this as a moral issue. You can't tell them they are wrong and force your belief on them. You must be willing to compromise and look for ways to respect the feelings and rights of EVERYONE. There should be no policy respecting the selfishness of transgenderism - the Golden Rule should suffice.
