Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

The role of the school is to provide children with a basic education. At least half of middle schoolers cannot read properly. Instead of indoctrinating and confusing children with progressive ideologies, while shutting parents out of the picture, the school system should invest its energy into making sure kids have at least a basic understanding of math and language, know proper US/world history, and have a clue about locating countries and capitals on the map! We are paying the school system to do a simple job. We are not paying for them to brainwash kids and hide information from parents. Adults understand to some extent consequences of their actions, children just want to be trendy and more often than not fail to think of long term effects of their choices...Till they become adults, children should be under the guidance of their parents, and the school system has no business pushing political agendas, hiding information from parents, and breaking up the family unit. ...Responsible teachers would work together with parents no matter what issues would come up, not lie to parents about their children...Would love to know how on earth will the schools maintain safety if biologically different kids are allowed to enter either bathroom depending on how they feel that day...and how will everyone keep up with using demanded pronouns based on what the kids might think they are at the moment...btw- one can think whatever of themselves, it is their right, their choice...but others should not be forced to pretend with them...there is a reason we have two biological genders and the more you are pushing for them to be erased, the faster you destroy this nation...but I’m sure you all know that already, just refuse to acknowledge it.
