Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

Opening more doors than you can imagine

If counselors can counsel on it being 'ok', can't they give other options too?  Why does everything have to be ok?

These students' brains are not developed yet.  They aren't old enough to vote.  Some aren't old enough to drive.  Yet if they want to change their entire life, it is ok to make that decision - without parent knowledge perhaps.

Does the counseling include speaking to people who have changed and regret it as well as the "positive" that is stated?

If a boy goes with the girls for Health class, then when will the boy learn about boy stuff that he should know about?

I feel like a girl this week.  Hate my teacher.  Teacher didn't call me by my preferred pronoun.  Teacher in trouble.

I feel like a boy this week.  Going to hang out in the boys bathroom, with my boyfriend.

Teacher doing a fun quick game:  ok 'guys' on this side and 'girls' on this side.  Someone gets embarrassed.  Teacher gets in trouble for harassment.
