Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

Commenter: Educate responsibly

Educate Responsibly - Where is the education in this?

I am deeply concerned that our system of educating the next generation is more concerned about socially shaping the next generation rather than educating the next generation on the facts and figures of science, english, history, and math.  There is a wealth of learning to be accomplished by children.  We as the adults in their lives need to be less concerned about reshaping their minds to fit a new social agenda and more concerned about actually educating.

These proposed actions will cause a greater distraction from both learning and teaching.  It adds chaos to an environment that is already struggling.  It will create even greater hostility rather than an environment of peace and acceptance.

The focus needs to return to true education.  Our children have already fallen behind in their education when compared to the great minds of the past and of other nations.

How about focusing on ways to make sure everyone in the school is focusing on real education and leave all the extra stuff outside the doors of learning?  Leave the toys outside, leave the social shaping outside, focus on the science, focus on the math, focus on the things that are in common - not the divisive issues of society.

we have fallen a great way from what our education system was first designed to accomplish.  Let’s use taxpayer’s money responsibly.  I am deeply opposed to this bill as I feel it goes against everything education should be concerned with.
