Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

Safe environment for all - this is NOT it

In an effort to supposedly provide equal treatment and a non threatening environment for some you are set up a chaotic non supporting environment for ALL. Who can relax when you are afraid you will misspeak at every turn?  How can a teacher teach when their actions or words can be misconstrued on the whim of a child's mood of the day? My sons speaks of kids urinating in the sink just to have fun and many teenagers not just young children are even afraid to go in a bathroom because of what goes on - this would be worse and allows for NO sense of privacy and no rights of authority to step in and help.  Really - please just focus on teaching proper education - our kids are getting less and less true education and it shows in our society!  Parents need to be encouraged and supported to teach their children at HOME. It is not the responsibility of the government or school systems to do it all.  We are creating lazy parents and students and warping all sense of humanity.
