Nobody will argue that discrimination, bullying, and harassment are wrong and should be prevented no matter the person. However, these laws do more than attempt to prevent those things. In fact, it can and should be argued that additional legislation is superfluous and not necessary. All of the discrimination identified in these bills are already covered in other state and federal laws. Instead, this bill forces an ideology that a person's sex can change and that society should embrace this at the expense of the personal rights of parents, and other children (Check out the lawsuits that have occurred in Connecticut, Lexington VA and other places. Does Virginia want to invite more of these? Just the monetary cost of these lawsuits would be enough to shy away from this bill).
This ideology is not based on any scientific fact, but rather a societal movement pushed by the agenda of very few. Furthermore, we should recognize the rampant damage that this ideology has on society, families, and the children who are encouraged to embrace a belief that they will be happier if they modify their external appearance to match their inner feelings. As if the external should take precedent. There are now thousands of individuals who regret their sex transitions. They realize that changing their outward appearance was not a cure for the incongruent feelings they had. Worse still, there is little evidence that transgender transitioning has any meaningful effect on the depression, isolation, and social awkwardness that individuals suffering from gender dysphoria struggle with. They do permanent, irreversible, damage to their bodies, and feel no better. The suicide rate for those suffering from gender dysphoria and those who transition is nearly identical. As are many measures of mental health. Transitions don't' work. And yet, we are willing to accept this ideology and allow it to be taught to the most vulnerable and impressionable of the population. This is nothing short of child abuse and it should be rejected wholeheartedly.
