Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

Oppose proposed Transgender Policies
 

               Gender confusion among school age children is not unknown. Most of these students outgrow their gender/sex confusion and become comfortable with their biological bodies as determined by their DNA.                                                                                                                                      Our biological bodies are either boy or girl, man or woman. Confusion over sex and gender are the same thing. Confusion over your sex and gender is a mental problem. You don't solve mental problems with hormones and surgery.                                                                                  The proposed Transgender Policies for Virginia schools would open up a Pandora's box of problems. You're acting on a students without any other information. This makes no sense. And it will have students gaming the system.                                                                                             The proposed policies completely take the parents out of the picture. They either accept the school's dictates or are told to get lost. What happened to parental authority for children under eighteen years of age? That's a big change in the law.                               Transgenderism, when it exists , should be treated by professionals who have experience in this area. Our children and students must not be sent down a road leading to confusion, high risk, depression and possible suicide. This policy is not in the best interests of our children.                                                                                                                    John Green
