As a parent, I strongly support this guidance. Many of the comments that oppose the guidance are proving why this population of students needs support. I don't want any child to have to face this type of criticism and disrespect at school. Transgender and non-binary students are not infringing on anyone else's rights. They are only asking for basic dignity and respect while at school. If these students feel threatened or the environment at school is hostile, they cannot learn. When LGBTQ students are provided with affirming environments and their mental health is supported, their life outcomes are much better. Tolerance of differences and support for any marginalized student is the compassionate approach. Science and the medical community back up the need for a supportive approach. Tearing down our community members only weakens the entire community. Let us lift one another up. Be kind.
