Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

Are we adhering and teaching science or something else

i am against this, not because of whether a child should be allowed to choose their ‘identity’ or not, but due to “Schools will be permitted to help a student explore, facilitate and make decisions regarding their gender expression of sexual identity while at school, without a parent even knowing!”

As a parent, I should be informed of any conversation with my child that concerns health matters.  I know what is best for my child, not a school administrator


in addition, if VA is teaching climate science and basic biology in classrooms, by ignoring the biological makeup of a child you are relinquishing  scientific fact.  Again, I don’t have a problem whether a child self identifies, but the school system, if adhering to all other principles of scientific fact like climate change, basic biology should not then be countering that by agreeing to a choice....that is not science, that is politics and emotion.

In addition, if true that if I as a parent choose to have my child embrace their biological fact gender, that should be my choice......I should not be ‘reported’ to child services because of that.  You are relinquishing the role of a parent to the government.  I would be dead set against this if it it was based on politics, science, or any other item (like religion).  What if I wanted my child to embrace Judaism?  Should I then be reported to child services?  The role of a parent should not be abridged.
