Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

It is angering that this is what the Virginia Assembly was working on while the rest of us were locked down due to the pandemic.  Truly using a crisis to government advantage.  This guidance document is very one sided and doesn't seem to explore other view points. The document seems to assume that: 1.) The state and strangers at school know what is better for children than their own parents and 2.)  That children make the best decisions.  I think most can agree that these assumptions are false.  These suggested policies do not take into consideration the feelings of males and females that are being subjected to the so called trans in their bathroom, locker room, or sports team.  I know being trans is fairly "trendy" right now.  Gender should not be a trend.  I think these agendas are forgetting how serious these types of decisions are.  Gender decisions can have life long consequences and should not be left up to a child and the state, which is kind of what these policies are suggesting.
