I have seen the serious negative effects of the recent regulations in Texas requiring that guns be permitted on campus. My friends who are professors at U. of Texas are afraid to go to class, afraid to have office hours, afraid to give their students low grades when they deserve them. The answer to violence on campus is NOT more guns, but fewer guns. This is not only a safety issue, but a quality of life on campus issue -- we will have difficulty attracting top talent to teach at our universities if guns become commonplace on campus, and this will affect our economy in the short run and the long run.
