In support of ban on weapons in schools and govt buildings

I am in full support of a ban on concealed weapons in government buildings and on school campuses. I trust that armed police officers trained in the proper use of firearms and the proper training in how to handle themselves in a crisis situation will be capable of keeping these places secure. I also feel that they are the only ones that should be granted the authority to carry concealed weapons on these sites. The system for screening the general public is not ideal and flaws in the system can prove fatal. Add alcohol to the equation (alcohol that is frequently used on college campuses), and the idea of allowing concealed weapons on our school campuses becomes appalling. We have a duty to ensure that our campuses provide students, professors, and staff with a safe place to focus on education and learning. We also want every citizen and government worker to feel that our government buildings are a safe place to work and seek services. As one who has received military and civilian training in the proper use of firearms, I feel safest when fewer people and only highly trained people are holding weapons.

I have a child, who I assume is college-bound, and a spouse who teaches on a university campus, so this issue is of particular importance to me. Thank you for considering my views.
