Using Dirty Diesel as "co-location back up power" should NOT BE allowed by DEQ

Would DEQ be shocked to learn that dirty diesel as back up power BEYOND emergency use has been a recongized alternative for more than two years?

December 16th, 2023, the SCC Judges held a technical conference on the growing grid crisis due to the unprecendented and unconstrained growth of the Data Center Industry.

Here is what was recommended by AEP:

time stamp 39:20

AEP :"having one to one diesel back up generation. So there is co-location power, but is permited in a way that it can't be used unless there is a system emergency. So there are opportunities there if you are really going co-locate..."

"can it be economic for the customer, can it be counted as back up capacity....there are opportunities and synergies there...." "There is still speed to market issues" "getting your permit to run on more than emergency is going to be problematic"

We need our own DEQ to take a stand and put residents health and welfare first and foremost.

It is inconscionable that we have arrived at a place where a 21st century technology, touted as saving the planet and humanity, is going to run on polluting green house gas emitting fossil fuel.

For too long this data center "train" has has been speeding, unabated, towards a cliff, and dragging the residents of Virginia with it, at some point, we need those in positions of decision making to say enough is enough.

Please say NO to amending any expansion of on site generation generators during Planned Outages.

Thank you,
